Queen Anne Pembrooke Table [*SOLD*]
This is a fine modern-day rendition of a Pembroke table made by Bassett Furniture in the Queen Anne style, with characteristic cabriole legs and bun-like feet. What makes it a Pembroke table? In design they are usually rectangular with two relatively narrow drop leafs hinged to make a larger top. Almost all have one drawer on the short end. In function, they are used as occasional tables for tea-drinking, eating, writing or playing games, and due to their smallish size and weight, when they are no longer needed can be easily tucked away in a corner. This table could also anchor the end of your couch, or serve as a night table in your bedroom with a nice brass lamp.
This table was structurally sound when I found it at Community Forklift but it had the blandest-of-bland brown finishes that needed help. Since is not a precious antique I thought its appearance could be improved with mineral paint. After prep I chose Restoration Bronze for the base from Melange, a classic looking green that reminds me of furniture I’ve seen in Historic Newport. For the top I chose Melange Jett Black with a top coat of Minwax matte polycrylic for extra durability. I buffed the entire piece with Fusion beeswax to a soft sheen. I chose an Art Deco pull from D. Lawless Hardware for the drawer to pull it all together.
This piece has a cool eclectic-look that could fit in many decors. It is very well-constructed (e.g., dovetailed drawer, mortise and tenon joinery) by a quality furniture maker, and it’s offered at a very reasonable price. All good reasons for you to take it home.
Dimensions: H 22.5” x W 18.25 x D 27”; Width with leaves up is 34”
$100. Cash, Venmo, PayPal accepted.
